How to remove 1990 New Yorker door panel?

I got the following instructions: "Unsnap the plastic appliques from the door pull strap and remote bezel. Then pull the front edge of the bezel outward and push the bezel backward to release it Remove the mounting screws at either end of the pull strap and remove it from the door panel Not the installation angle of the window crank handle and then remove it.To do this use an allen wrench to remove the allen screw from the center of the window mechanism shaft Remove the retaining screws from the lower side of the door handle and remove it There are spring clips mounted to the door panel which slip into holes drilled into the door metal.Using a flat stick gently pry the panel off the door at front back and bottom to release the clips Lift the panel straight upward to release clips which retain it to the inside of the door by running down into the window slot."

That's great, but there is a "Z" shaped bracket that attaches the door handle to the door. There is a screw at either end of the bracket, one attaching it to the metal door frame and one attaching it to the plastic door piece. The space between the head of the screw and either piece is not large enough to get a screwdriver down in there. This is the only place the panel is still attached to the metal frame. Any ideas?!?
