K & N Air filter for '01 PT Cruiser?????????????

$39.99 plus tax for the filter andfrom then on, $10 plus tax for the cleaning/oiling kit? Should I get one for my 2001 Cruiser or should I save my money? I was told that if you put more air in, you gotta change computer mixture settings and exhaust to get "more air" out. Of course Auto Zone sez I should get 2-3 more mpg.

I put an offroad version (all that was available) on my 3.5l Intrepid R/T, and changed nothing at all computer-wise; it is, however, mated with a straightened-out exhaust system and a MagnaFlow, which is a straight-through muffler that really cuts down on backpressure.

Works like a dream; metrage (mileage) went up, but moreso, a lot more power. I mean a lot, too.

Go for it! It's dirt cheap, and it works, which these days is miraculous!

BTW, avoid the 'Tornado' thing; they break easily and get sucked into the engine.....

I got one for my stock 05 PT Convertible and it increased the mileage by about 2-4 mpg. It was getting around 18-20 and now never dips below 20 and sometimes gets as high as 24, all on regular gas. It is the 180hp turbo model.

Just be aware that the K&N is not as good at filtering dirt out as a quality paper filter. It's OK to use it, just be aware of the facts and make an informed decision (know what you are giving up).

Read this study, then decide:

Bill, While I have you on the email, is there anyway to retrofit a FluidDrive transmission to a standard three speed with overdrive? I have a 1940 Chrysler Royal with the three speed and would like to get a FluidDrive. I am disabled now and it is very difficult to keep pushing the clutch down all the time. "What do you mean there's no movie?"

You're asking about an area that I have no knowledge about whatsoever.

Remember, I don't want to modify the exhaust or anything else. You did. Should I still get one??

I would; you can always easily pull it if it doesn't do what you want it to.

As for the exhaust mods, all I really did was 'remove the curves,' and I think that affected the HP and torque more than it did mileage.

Anyway, bonne chance! (good luck!)

And let us know what transpires!
