Can someone please look up the estimated number of hours to replace four struts and coils with Monroe Quick Struts please.
do they sell quick struts for the rear? the first gen cars only have the ones for the front available.
all data shows 0.9 hours front and 1.6 for the rear, but that is time for each strut. also that's for a complete teardown , not quick strut replace..... also that's for a 96 which is the only thing i have access to.
your mileage may vary. sorry i cant get any more accurate.
Thanks for the try, Rob. I've got the car at a trade school. They're working on it only a few hours each afternoon; four quick struts (yes, they make a set for the rear) plus a left front wheel hub. The teacher told me the manual called for the removal of the back seat, shelf (?), and speakers. I didn't look it up in my service manual yet 'cause it doesn't give hours anyway. I just figured they know what they're doing. But I was surprised to hear they had to remove the seat etc to replace struts with a quick strut.
Front Both; 2.0 hours Rear Both; 2.8 hours
Yes, the rear seat bottom and back rest have to come out, the speakers need to come out, the top plate mounting nuts are under the speakers.
Wow! Oh well. The instructor said he wouldn't have agreed to do the job had he known the interior needed to be disassembled. Because he had his ace students work on it, they were available for only about
2.5 hours a day. Took three days! Anyway... it's done and all seems fine.Car rides like new. Next stop... Firestone for four Taranza replacements.
Well then - the students learned a valuable lesson the hard way: Know the scope of the job before you quote or start it. :)
What exactly does he think they should have for hands on activities?
I don't think his discomfort was the fact that the upholstery had to be removed. I think he simply didn't plan for it and - running several classes a day with interruptions from administration and holiday hiccups - he saw himself getting squeezed for time. He seems to be very organized and even has his 3' x 5' "production schedule" screwed into the wall for everyone to see. It's a busy place. But ... all in all... everything worked out well with nothing getting dropped from the schedule that I could see. What's more, I was very happy to pay his suggested donation; $150! But I pay property taxes here too so... :-)
