Water Pump Replacement

What is the best way to replace a water pump on a 1996 Plymouth Voyage with a

3.0 engine? The engine is extremely close to the firewall and that makes it difficult to access the water pump. Will removing the passenger side tire and fender help?

It might - but you do know the pump is internal and requires removal of the timing cover and while you're in there it is strongly advised to replace the timing belt, too. And I can't remember off the top of my head what else needs to come off too. It'll be an all day or 2 job.

Follow the factory service procedure.

Removing the right front tire and lower splash shield is part of the procedure. Removing the fender is pointless since there will still be the inner fender/strut tower which is a welded in part of the uni-body. Removing the wiper module opens up a lot of room.

The wiper Module/cowl does not have to be removed, it is in not in the way.

Thanks philth. I removed the wiper module and it opened up a lot of room. It was a 2 day job. The car is running great. My only concern is that I have (2) 4" bolts that fit a 13mm wrench with a 86 on the head left over. Any idea on where these go?

The only 4 inch long bolts I can think of would go through the motor mount plates.

You -really- want to re-trace your steps and put them back where they belong.
