Citroen C3 child locks problem

I am having problems with my C3's child locks. Every time I start the engine, they seem to forget whether they should be on or not, and make a random decision about what to do. Sometimes they come on, sometimes they don't. It's a real pain (not to mention a safety risk) if they come on and you don't notice. When you park up and turn the engine off, your passengers can't get out! You have to put the ignition back on to activate the button on the dashboard to turn them off again. Opening the driver/passenger door often makes them change state too. Has anyone else seen this problem? My dealer says that it is a "known issue" but that there is no download available to fix it!

Phone Citroen and ask them. They may at least be able to confirm or deny the dealers claim.

Hi I have a simular problem ;- When you activate the central locking via the "padlock" button everything is how it should ie the doors lock barring access from outside but still being able to get out. However When you deactivate the central locking the childproof locks activate! and lock the rear doors from the inside is this a fault ?- citroen don't seem to think so. Does it happen to any-one else?

Many Thanks Alan R>

Look at the rear doors, there should be a small button or lever to activate/de-activate the child-lock.

It is also possible that there is a key-hole, where you can put in the key and turn it to activate/de-activate the child-lock.

Mine, an Oct 2002 model doesn't do this, everything seems to work perfectly, I just tried it. If you are in southern UK try popping it in to Worthing, Sussex dealer, except for weekends, NOT Tates. You may just have a rogue car. C3s are under a 3 year warranty so take it back to any Citroen dealer and demand a fix under warranty. When the warranty bill gets big enough they'll DO something. Probably your mechanic just doesn't know how to work the diagnostics to put matters right.
