Beetle springs?

There is a house that I walk past a couple of times a week, that I think is let to students. There must have been a change of tenant recently, because there was a mountain of stuff dumped by the dustbin, some of which the dustmen wouldn't take.

Among the bits left in the front garden are two pairs of apparently new coil springs, still shiny and painted black. One pair is a larger diameter than the other.

Where a K Reg Beetle was parked in the front, is now a tatty Peugeot. So I am guessing that the springs are the suspension springs for the Beetle, though having never looked under a Beetle, I don't know how they are sprung.

If anyone wants to have a look, the house is in Bath, and I will e-mail the address if anyone wants it.

Unlikely to be beetle springs on a "k" reg. Only the super beetle has springs on the front, the rest are all torsion bar.

Neil ( snipped-for-privacy@yahoo.co.remove.uk) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

K would be '72 - which could very well be a MacStrut Beetle.

1302 Beetles used springs from 1971... J-reg...

"normal" beetles have torsion bar suspension, so the springs will be for a 1302/1303 Super Beetle only.

I'm pretty sure we've got a K plate super beetle somewhere...

Sorry, not wishing to be pedantic, but I only said "unlikely" based on not many people having multiple sets of springs for a super beetle, based on my belief ( I own more than 1) that they only need 2. (and were guessed as being students?) I got the impression the question was being asked by somebody who wouldnt know wether a beetle had springs or not, and was only trying to be helpful. Maybe we should ask for chassis numbers etc, to make sure????

Or maybe I spend too long around beetles, from early 50s to present, to be vague enough for a mere enquiry? I have seen ( and indeed now own an IRS converted 60s beetle etc.) I was only answering what appeared to be a basic question. If you want to be specific about vdubs, try joining the aircooled forums, or supply more info?

rant over...had a bad day
