What model, and what sort of parts are you after?

All the same ones that sell Jaguar parts. Though shoping on the web isn't the best or cheapest way to buy parts.

You don't say if you want new, repro, or secondhand parts. Nor have you said what you want them for. Some 1950s parts are getting difficult to find, some particularly rare parts are now remanufactured by the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club which also covers Daimlers.

Sorry to point this out, but had nothing to do with Daimler in the

50's. Daimler was taken over by Jaguar in 1960. It wasn't untill the 1962 that the models achieved similarity with the introduction of the MKII jaguar V8 250, although the SP250 and Majestic continued in production untill 1964 and 1969 respectivly, when in 1969 the XJ range was introduced.

Spares for things like, DB18, DE27/DE36, DJ/Conquest, Empress/104/Regency, DK400, and Majectic are unlikely to be in common supply at a Jaguar specialist.

Your web resource for these cars is best a

formatting link
although the club itself no longer keeps/stocks parts.

If you require S/H Conquest/Century parts I myself may be able to help, I have access to lots of spares for these vehicles.

I know the history of both companies thanks.

The JEC provides support for owners of both marques, irrespective of the age of the car and remanufactures spares for both marques some pre-dating Jaguar's takeover. Companies which provide spares for classic Jaguars tend to provide spares for classic Daimlers as well - e.g. David Manners, SNG Barratt.

However there's a possibility that they will be found at a Jaguar/Daimler specialist.

I though I was being pedantic, but even I didn't bother to deem it necessary to distinguish the two. Indeed it was the Majestic Major that ceased in 1969, not the Majestic. The oversight comes from the fact that I'm a Conquest/Century man, not a Majestic Major nut.

And as we're being pedantic:

What about the DS420? although not a real daimler, it was the last one to that was only produced as a Daimler, not a badged Jaguar (urgh). A (long) Jaguar MK10 underneath, production 1969 to 1992. The last Royal Daimler.

Personally my interest & liking of Daimlers ends in 1960.

well that will teach Lady Docker to get above herself. The true Royal carriage of choice is of course a Rover, Daimlers having been unceremoniously dropped because of "the insult".

Weren't the last official royal Daimlers pre WW2? Long before Lady Docker came to the public attention?

No, Queen Mum got a 1950s Daimler, the last royal to do so IIRC. It was written up in the Daimler section of the JEC magazine that Lady Docker tried to persuade the Queen to buy more Daimlers but was regarded as so infra-dig that the approach to the palace was written off as an insult to the royals and the instruction given never to buy another Daimler.

Well, her husband owned it so he could have refused. ;-)

Ahh. But by official royal car I meant the ones that don't have numberplates. The Queen Mum's car would have been her own property.

Funny thing is the footage shown recently of her visiting bombed parts of London during WW2 saw her in an R-R with plates. So presumably King George favoured R-R for his personal transport?

She certainly gave everyone a good laugh in the Sunday papers - 'Mink keeps my bum too warm' was one headline.

The old Daimers - or at least one - were retired to Balmoral. I can just remember as a kid going over the Devil's Elbow in my dad's Wolseley when one went past at very high speed with only the chauffeur in it. Laying a good ol' smoke trail like most sleeve valve engines.

Yes, silent but deadly. Must admit, I'd love to run a big straight 8 sleeve valve daimler, but are there any left that don't look like a two-stroke at the tailpipe?

I think they smoked even when new.

The DS420 was as you say a Mk10 Jaguar Floorpan with a Jaguar engine so is not strictly a Daimler apart from it's Hooper styled body and that wonderful crinkly grill. Whereas the Majestic Major was Daimler designed and Daimler built and was killed off by Jaguar when it outperformed the Mk 10 both in acceleration and economy in spite of it being the heavier car.

Now if the DS420 had been blessed with the 4.5 litre V8 what a machine that would have been.
