Ben Blaney ( snipped-for-privacy@privacy.net) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :
Too much. Reserve £5k for an unusable car.
Why no pictures or condition described? My dad owned a Morris minor with only 246 miles on the clock, it had been crashed hard into a lamppost when new, he kept it for thirty odd years and never repaired it, eventually I ran it in for scrap and got 2 quid for it (about five years ago.) Perhaps this herald is the same?
If the Herald is in actual new condition then I think about ten grand would be feasible.

I have a Hispano Suiza in my garage with 50miles on the clock, dont have pictures of it either!
This one is quite well known, at least in mythological terms. It was associated with Johnsons of Downham Market, a Triumph dealership which retained all kinds of wonderful cars. Most of the collection was dispersed in (I think) the mid 1980s, before my involvement with Triumphs began. As such I have never seen this car for myself, though it's provenance appears to be sound, Cheers, Bill.
Barspeed1975 ( snipped-for-privacy@hutmail.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :
Hmmm. Now I *might* give £5k for *that*...
Unusable?
I notice the location's Thetford. Any idea why that rings a bell? Is there a Triumph specialist based there or something?
Nothing springs to mind, but I'm not familiar with all of the traders covering Stags and TRs. Cheers, Bill.
One man's unuseable car is another man's museum exhibit. When peole are prepared to put £15000 into restoring a Herald £5000 seems like a bargain......not that I have that kind of budget. Cheers, Bill.
Ben Blaney ( snipped-for-privacy@privacy.net) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :
Budget for a full mechanical rebuild on top of the purchase price, and as soon as you use it, you kill any "unused, brand new, delivery mileage" premium on it.
So, yes, unusable.
Bill Davies ( snipped-for-privacy@rabbits4classics.co.uk) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :
From what I know of Ben, I doubt he's looking for a museum exhibit.
Nothing, it's a crap auction. No pictures. No history. No information. For all I know it's a Dinky model with a volume of 1147cc by displacement that has been carefully rolled around a carpet for 50 miles.
That, and "NOWHERE OUT OF ENGLAND". Arse. That's me out of the bidding, then, and you Welsh can sod off too, clearly.
Richard
A few years ago at that Esher classic event there were 2 Vitesses, one mint and unregistered and one mint and restored. The former looked scruffy and poorly-assembled, with original muddy paint, and I believe was offered at about £5k. The restored one was more but looked 100% better.
Original cars are often surprisingly crappy compared to restored cars IME.
If it hasn't been registered, won't this cause some issues? - mainly related to safety and emissions regulations a Herald wouldn't have a hope in hell of passing?
SteveH ( snipped-for-privacy@italiancar.co.uk) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :
Only if you want a current 05 plate on it. If you're happy with an age- related, you'd just need to prove the age, same as an import.
I was thinking of some kind of legal unusable.
Ah - understood. If I bought it (and I'm not going to) I'd store it unused.
A bit like the Ducati I'm having delivered to a country I don't live in.
If I had more space, I would be tempted to keep it in its current condition.
Sensible policy, imo
RichardK ( snipped-for-privacy@NOSPAMbtconnect.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :
They're saving you from yourself. Be thankful.
