Insurance

Threaded View
Gentlemen,

I am about to sell my Bedford CA Camper and replace it with a Rover P6, 3.5
litre Auto.

I am currently insured by a camper related insurance, can anybody point me
to a good insurer for the rover please.
Reason for sale is that my wife has Osteo Arthritis in both of here knee's
and can no longer climb into my works van so we have to have a car and I
don't have enough room for the Bedford.

Re: Insurance

I use Chris Knott for my Capri which I use as my main car. Got it on a
Fully Comp Classic Policy with agreed value and Class 1 business use.
8000 miles SDP and unlimited mileage business use. £200 for a 35 year
old.

Re: Insurance

The other "usual suspects" who I have found competitive include Footman
James, Firebond and Lancaster. All have websites.

Insuring a 17-year-old daughter proved to be more of a headache however,
even for a 998cc classic Mini.

I found Direct Line to be competitive for the SD1 where I live - but I get
discount because the other car is with them too.

I could have got mine for £120 but it wasn't a classic policy so I'd
have got scrap value if the worst happened.

Re: Insurance

That's a myth. Assuming you've given the true value when insuring you're
entitled to market value if it is totalled. Insurance companies often
start out offering a silly amount.

I've never had a quote worth bothering with from any of the "usual

Peter S Taylor/Bishop Calway have done it for me for the last couple of
years.

Re: Insurance

I had classic insurance for several years but found the price differential
reducing each year between that and second car type.

You seem to forget the benefits of agreed value cover.

Re: Insurance

Maybe. But I've never totalled a car or had one stolen and never recovered.
Cynical me also wonders just how 'solid' these agreed values are.

Very. My mate has had to claim once when coming across an errant cow at
3am.. The ones woth having will have you send in photos of the car or.
They typically want 6 showing specific areas. Sometimes they'll send
out a valuer.

Re: Insurance

Photos never show the true condition. By a mile. All they do is sort of
prove the car is *vaguely* right. But a condition 3 could easily look like
a condition 1 in a pic.

I'd expect them to on something with a high value.

Normally for high value stuff - £10k+ - they require a valuation from an
expert - club, marque specialist.

For *very* high value stuff, perhaps a valuer - but I'd be surprised if
they did for much less than £50k or so.

Re: Insurance

Just a thought - when my mother was alive, she had arthritic knees, and
although she had no trouble getting into a fairly low car seat, she found it
very painful getting out.  A higher car seat was better.

If you haven't already committed to the P6, consider a P5B instead.

As for insurance, as well as the others mentioned, you could try Carole
Nash.

Re: Insurance

Yes - a friend of my brother has MS and finds this one of the easiest
(classic) cars to access from his wheelchair.

Re: Insurance

The reason for the P6 is that I know its history and condition as it
belonged to my Brothers partners dad until he died earlier this year and the
price is right.
It is fitted with a tow bar so can be used to pull our caravan.

But if it's no good for the wife...

Or is that the plan?

The wife has tested it, otherwise life would not be worth living :-))
