Can anyone on this NG advise what car the rear lamp lens with number LUCAS SAE STD 61 stamped on it belongs to?
I have the feeling it is a Ford Zephyr MK111, could someone confirm this?

JPG?
of Automotive Engineers standard (19)61
Early Lucas part numbers are about 8 figures like 54570392 ( its a winker lens costs 4/- fits?)
Later Lucas numbers are like RLL 642 (RLL rear light lens) and so on.
steve the grease
Was that a special edition?

Black'n'Gold, with ciggy adverts badly spelled all over it.
The OP's sent me a photo off-list, and it looks like a tail light to me. Nothing like a Mk 3 Zody one, though.
It seems unlikely, as far as I am aware all original parts fitted to Ford vehicles of that period are marked either Enfo or FoMoCo.
Lucas is the maker, which was a subsidery of BMC, so its likley that it is a Austin or Morris light. SAE STD 61 is as far as I remember like a British kite mark and of standard specification (61) say?
Jono
Whatever gave you that idea?
Lucas was never part of BMC or Leyland. Perhaps you're confusing it with SU carbs?

Naturally, much about Lucas is still shrouded in darkness, but it's crystal clear that the company was never part of BMC.
ok, subsid was the wrong word, i meant more in partnership, they were based in the midlands, but lucas never made a lamp for Ford, and when Ford needed a lamp or reflector they at times dipped into the lucas parts bin. I used subsid because many companies made conscoius decisions years ago to be based alongside each other, same would go for Dunlop also based in the midlands.

Eh?
Companies should set factories up *MILES* from their main customers and skilled assembly line workers, should they? If they're making millions of lights for a company in Birmingham, Inverness would be a logical location for a new plant?
They were never in partnership with BMC either. They were simply a supplier to them - as were many other firms.
Err, Lucas *did* make parts for Ford.
It makes sense for a supplier to be close to his main customers - certainly in those days.
Thanks for the comments.
Still no closer identifying the lens. I have noticed another number L704 on the main lens. Is this the identifier code?
Dixie
That does sound like a Lucas id code, yes.
