mytyres.co.uk: beware

I ordered two Vredestein tyres for my DS through mytyres.co.uk for a very reasonable =A3119.40 a pair, with a local tyre place willing to fit and balance them for a tenner a go.

On 26th June I had an email from delticom (that's who mytyres are, really) saying: "Planned date of delivery (dd/mm/yyyy): 3.07.2007"

No tyres yet, so this morning (5th July) I rang them to ask when I could expect them. to be informed that they had been delivered on 28th June and that I had signed for them. Erm, no. I wasn't even here on

28th June. There are no tyres in the garden and none of my neighbours have 'em. So somebody, probably the carrier, is telling lies here - about my signing for them, for a start.

They have emailed me an affidavit to return saying I didn't get the tyres, so they can consider a refund or replacement. I am slightly suspicious at how readily they did this - almost as if tyres not arriving is a common occurrence.

I'll see what happens, but in the meantime I very strongly advise AGAINST ordering from mytyres.co.uk.

Ian

PS Anyone got a couple of spare 180/85 R 15's?

It sounds like you're being a bit harsh on Mytyres at this point. It would seem to me that they're behaving in a responsible and businesslike fashion.

If the carrier said they were signed for ask for a copy of the delivery note.

Sounds like the carrier is at fault here not mytyres. I would not be surprised if this is a common occurence hence they are geared up to deal with it.

I have used mytyres in the past and they were fine.

I've used Mytyres several times, and have never had any problems. Certainly sounds to me like they're trying to sort it out.

Yep, sounds like the van driver of the carrier liked the look of them and signed his little electronic book thing himself.

I agree.

We had a duff satnav to be returned to Motorworld and were told a time for pick up. No joy on 3 separate occasions. The couriers even told us the van driver had put a note through our door (no he hadn't). Eventually they asked for a description of how to get to our place because the driver couldn't find it (so how come they said he put a note through our door?). I don't know what sort of monkeys these firms have driving for them but it buggered up my wife's day three times.

As others have mentioned ask for a copy of the delivery note to be sent or faxed to you. I had a similar problem with a delivery, gave it plenty of time and it didn't show up, so contacted the supplier who said it had been delivered and was signed for by me. I got the copy of the POD and it had my name but not my signature, my neighbours figured it was another neighbour who had signed by interpreting the signature squiggle, they regular take in parcels for that person. The delivery driver had obviously just filled in the name as mine and was satisfied as he no longer had the package.

The fault may of course lie with their carrier - but that's just as strong a reason to avoid the company in my opinion.

To get my refund or replacement I have to post the affidavit to Germany. Well, that;s going to resolve things quickly, isn't it?

Another interesting thing: they list a local garage as one of their associated fitters. The garage in question claims to have no knowledge of this - and their charge for fitting a tyre is three times higher than mytyres claims.

I'm disappointed. The price was good, and I had heard good reports of the company, but this is a very offputting experience.

I gave up using Screwfix when they started delivering with Parcelforce. I think they have changed again, though. If mytyres /are/ having repetaed problems with their couriers they should use a different bunch - it's not as if there's a shortage of them!

Ian ( snipped-for-privacy@btinternet.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

How many national couriers exist in the UK? Less than half a dozen, and I doubt that any supplier will use one exclusively.

It's not going to be that slow - and if they

I suspect one person in the business signed 'em up, and forgot to tell anybody else...

So you've had a problem with a courier, and you're having a problem with your local garage - but it's the website's fault? C'mon, Ian...

OK, so they sent you a mail saying that they'd deliver this Tues, and they actually "tried to deliver" last Thu - not great, given that most people will have logistics issues with arranging to be about when deliveries happen, but not exactly the end of the world...

What is it with the British?

You'd be complaining to chuff if they wouldn't consider a refund, now you're moaning that they are complaining.

Do the logical thing. Ask for a copy of the signature from the carrier.

In news: snipped-for-privacy@n2g2000hse.googlegroups.com, Ian wittered on forthwith;

I'm involved in a tyre business and we use My Tyres on an almost daily basis. If a weird tyre is needed quite often we recommend for the customer to order them from My Tyres and have them sent to the garage, this is often a good idea with some of the more exotic tyres for things like BMW X5s with

20" rims and some of the more oddball motorcycle tyres.

In the three years or so we've used them we have *never* had a problem. Never had the wrong tyres arrive, tyres disappearing or tyres "being on back order". They've /always/ been spot on. Considering some of the other wholesale type tyre places we use and their ability to f*ck any order right up, this is an astonishing track record.

I have a feeling they'll sort your problem pretty sharpish.

"Ones that don't get paid much?"

What's that got to do with it? And I wonder what your response would be if that driver (or anyone else for that matter) kept you hanging about for three days for a collection/delivery?

Or are you one of that very small tribe of mendacious delivery men - hence the laconic reply?

The other day, ParcelForce turned up at my door with a package that had the right address, but wrong name. I pointed out to the driver that there was no one at my address with this name, and he said it was funny, because he had another parcel for further up the road, with the same name. I told him that it must be for them then, but he was having none of it as, as far as he was concerned, he was at the address that it said on the package. He asked me if I was sure that no one in my house was waiting for anything. I was dumb enough to say that "as far as I knew" no one was, but that my daughter did order a lot of stuff off the net. That was enough for him. He insisted on leaving the parcel, "just in case" because it was at the correct address, and told me that if it definitely wasn't for anyone in my house, that all I had to do was call their depot, and it would be picked straight back up. As it happened, I was able to check with my daughter literally 2 minutes later, so I called their depot immediately, in the fond hope that they could call the driver, and get him to swing back round. The person that I got to speak to on the other end really hadn't got a clue, but texted the driver anyway.

And that's the last I ever heard. The parcel still sits unopened and uncollected in my hallway, and somewhere, someone just like Ian, is getting very frustrated with a company over goods that have not been delivered to him, but are showing with ParcelForce that they have ...

Prove you haven't signed for them and haven't sold them or put them on ebay. Look at it from the companies point of view. If a lot of tyres went missing when the same driver had them, then the company would look in to that. If it's just you that claims not to have had them then you're stuck. What they will be doing is a credit check on your address and comparing the signature on the forms sent against the delivery notes. It's to see if you have a "history".

We had a similar experience with a courier claiming to have been but not having been anywhere near. PITA they are.
