TR7: bring it or leave it?

I have a 1976 Speke built TR7, left hand drive, currently in The Netherlands, where I come from. I've just moved to Wales and I already know that I won't be able to keep her here, she won't be able to do the road to our house and she certainly won't be able to come back out of our drive.

My question is, is it wiser to leave her on the continent and sell her there, or do I bring her here and sell her here?

I really hate having to let her go, but I'd rather she go to someone who really loves a TR7 and there don't seem to be too many people in The Netherlands that do. I've no idea what the demand is for TR7's overhere (I've only been here three weeks), but I have to make a decision about her quite soon.

Any advice?

Thanks, Gwen

Depends on condition. If it's a really clean rust free FHC you'll get a good price here. Seems there aren't many FHCs left, all having gone to the scrappy or broken to mend convertibles.

If it's a typical fixed-head in typical condition then you'll only get a few hundred quid for it - the LHD will drop the price by, what, 20-30%?

Look on Ebay for TR7s - there's usually a few. Or check a specialist site like

to see how they move for.

Best of luck

Sorry, but there's not a very big demand for FHCs in the UK.

I would try to sell it in the Netherlands first. If no joy, bring it back.

I reckon the Doc is right: you might get £300 or £400 UKP for it?

Try advertising on this NG, ebay or ask Robsport or S&S.

Good luck

I'm pretty sure it would be quicker and more cost-effective to sell it in NL.

Try advertising her on the Dutch Triumph Club's website:

- it's free for both members and non-members. Ifshe's really a good'un and not overpriced, there are bound to beenthusiasts there who are interested.

I had a LHD Jensen Healey and advertised it on Find-it:

received quite a few enquiries from the continent. Selling in Europe can beawkward because of strict rules regarding originality and type-approval regulations, so if it is in original condition, you would get the best price there.

Using Find-it is free but you need to register, adding a photo to the advert costs though. I would also suggest you put LHD in the title like, "LHD Triumph TR7" to attract the attention of the continentals. Put in a detailed description in the main part and have some digital photos ready for when the enquiries come in. Have a look at the cars/classic and collectible section and see how others do it.

It would probably cost you more to get it to Wales than you could sell it for!

Best of luck.

Thanks everyone for all your tips and hints.

My TR7 is in good shape, she needs some minor bodywork and her brakes need doing, but other than that, she's fine. She certainly doesn't warrant the "GASP, Speke-built!" shocked reaction I sometimes get (something about Speke-built cars falling apart when you look at them I think).

However, I've just been offered space to have her garaged and looked after, so it looks like I'll be keeping her still for a little while.

I'll keep all your helpful ideas should I need them in the future, but I think leaving her garaged and looked after may well be the better option.

Thanks!
