Trim Rings/Wheels

I recently ordered some trim rings from a local dealer for my 75 Spitfire.

When I received them, they did not fit (they kept popping off).

When I told him, he said I might have wheels from a MG Midget on.

Who/What else used the same size wheels as the Spitfire?

That's a little unlikely - Totally different PCD IIRC.

Dolomite, TR7, Herald, Marina/ Ital, Maestro/ Montego and some Metros. I don't think there's any other makes/ cars that'll fit. But Spit wheels are quite distinctive aren't they? Could it be the trims just weren't that well made?

IIRC. I think that was a well known problem with trims/hubcaps. I remember seeing the trims in the bottom of hedges and at the side of the road. The only cure I can think of is to fasten the trims to the wheels using those plastic electrical ties. It will not stop the hub caps from coming off but at least you will save the trims. I must remember to get some and fit them to my Herald Estate wheels.

I believe Howard is talking about the chromed or stainless steel rings that clamp to the inside of the rim. It's part number GLZ225 in this picture:

's no relation with PCD, it should just fit the rim, which may ormay not be the same size as on a Midget. I think all Spitfires used 13"rims, but the inside profile may be different to rims used on othercars.

I think the bit about "he said I may have wheels from a MG Midget on." is a clue as to why I said what I did... ;)

Hi Stuffed.

They appear to be very well made, just too deep. My research showed that I should have received some 1 5/8-inch deep trim rings. Nevertheless, the retailer shows the model they sent me to be a 2-inch deep version. I suspect that they goofed when they sent them.

It was his comment that bothered me about the wheels being off a MG. Considering other things I have found amiss with this car, having rims off another make would not surprise me. Just get me upset again.

Thanks.

David,

I thought I read some place about the lug bolts distance being 3.75 inches.

Thank you.

Yippee,

Yes, that is the trim ring. Although not the part number I received.

I think I need to clarify the "popping off" part. This occurs during my attempt to install them. The springs that lock it in place to the rim are working quite well.

Thanks

I'd be bothered at his comment about MG wheels because anyone selling parts should know Midget wheels won't fit! I'd be questioning any other advice he'd given now...

I'm looking for some 16" trim rings either chromed or stainless does anyone know of a supplier?
