Well...duh ! I looked in the manual:

"Your Corvette is not DESIGNED or INTENDED to pull a trailer"

If you look at the car you should be able to figure that out...

We have two club members that pull trailers, one is a C3 and the other is a C5. Both run long miles and I've seen no problems with either. I installed the hitch on the C5 and had to make some stepped washers to bolt it fast to the frame and isolate the bumper cover from the clamping force. One carries an electric wheel chair and the other, C5, is to carry their living necessities as they travel between their 2 vacation homes. Both are automatics and have transmission coolers, much required to travel to AZ. Do use a trailer with a large diameter tire, cuts down on the bucking and burned out bearings.

i towed a 4x8 trailer on my 89 for a few years. used it to haul another set of wheels/tires, tools, helmets, and luggage to out of town races.

Most manufacturers do something like that anymore with their cars. Or they rate it for a trailer that is so small and light, you are lucky to haul a cooler to the track or game.

It irritates me a lot, since I would like to get a vehicle other than a truck to do occasionally towing but not have to be in a truck all the time. The reason is to get more than two people in a truck and have room for your stuff INSIDE, you need a truck 20-something feet long, like a crew cab or an extended cab.

Long ago, you could buy an Impala, Chevelle, and many other makes and haul a car trailer on a limited basis with no problem. Half of the stinking SUVs today have a maximum trailering capacity rating of 3500 lbs. That allows you to haul something like a Formula Ford on a car trailer tops.

This liability factor they rate for is really irritating.

Of course, the C4 is a bit of a problem, since it is almost built like a unibody with the pressed sheetmetal frame sections.

well, most cars are not really designed to pull trailers. I have seen numerous vettes pulling moderate sized trailers. asked one guy if he had any problems and he said none at all.
