OT - Key, need some info on lock changes on car

Hi Key,

Since you seem to know all about locks, I would like to know some thing about t-top locks. I have a Camaro with the locking t-tops. However, they have apparently been changed somewhere in their history, so the door and trunk key doesn't work in one and won't go in the other.

So I figure one is a different year, since key patterns change year to year.

So what I would like to know is can a locksmith handle these? Can I take my t-tops in, get the one changed to fit my door key, and the other changed both to this year key and rekeyed? Or are these types of locks only available at dealers and locksmiths don't have them?

Tom, A locksmith should be able to fit keys to your t-tops. there are 4 different keyways. B, D, H, K. if you Camaro is newer then a 90 model ? your key is probably an #H blank. (look on the door key you have) See which t-top that your door keys fit into, then you may need to order the proper lock/keyway for the other to match your door key. I am not sure but you may have to order the pair.

Hi Key...I aslo have a lock and key problem for my T-Tops as well. My problem is the key that came with the car (bought from a person off Craigslist) fits into both locks and was told to me to be the right key. I was able to unlock one of them, but not the other. Now, I can re-lock the one that I unlocked and can't get the other to move at all. I've tried to use a solution with graphite in it and that did nothing. Am up for any suggestions that you might have...

========== reply try to wash the lock out real good with WD-40. dry graphite is NOT to be used on locks that are subject to moisture. if that doesn't work ? take it to a local Locksmith shop and they should be able to repair the problem and get your key working...

hope this helps.... g'luck
