97 Intrepid Problem

Intepid with a 3.5 motor has been overheating off and on all year. It has a new radiator, thermostat, pressure cap. It only seems to overheat when it's cold out. all summer ran fine. Now it's starting to overheat again. Some days can drive 200 miles and it's ok. Then the next day drive it 5 miles and it gets hot. Have bleed the system many times. But still seems like there might be an air pocket or something to make it overheat. Can I use a lower pressure cap to to keep it from overheating like you use to be able to do on older cars? Any ideas on this problem? Thanks for any info.

Check for moisture and/or stains at the front of the oil pan: (water pump leaks) If the overflow reservoir goes down and you see no leaks, could be head gasket(s) And NO you can't replace the rad cap with a lower press cap, it will open too soon and push to coolant out into the overflow and out unto the street, resulting in not enough coolant to keep you car from really overheating. I hope this helps.
