my 1987 dodge caravan transmission will only go in reverse. the odc code is

If this is the standard 3 speed all forward gears have the rear clutch in common... Could be very low fluid, the clutch,,, something preventing it from activating (low/no pressure) or hard part failure...

I think I would drop the pan first .. take a look see what's in there.. chunks...glop, bits of metal.... could be something as simple as a plugged filter.. although that usually makes quite a bit of noise.. kind of like a PS pump low on fluid.
