Radiators

1998 ram quadcab 4x4 5.9ltr auto 136753 miles Question is, Is there any replacement radiators made that the end tanks are not plastic? and made with a 3 core unit rather than a 2 core unit?(think it might cool better, and there is room to fit one) Last week mine blew, had no smell of coolant, no clues that it was gonna go before it did its thing. I do flush the system and change coolant every fall. Was just wondering. Thanks for any info. snipped-for-privacy@webtv.net

Sure. Harrison, Modine and a couple others will make you whatever you want. They probably even have a stock unit that would fit.

Where did it leak at. I purchased a replacement radiator and when I placed the order the salesman suggested after I replace the new radiator, thermostat and hoses, I pressure test the system. He then went on to say that I should monitor the pressure and make sure it does not build up to much. I ask why and he stated from what he seen from radiators that are returned after someone just replaced it was the radiator busted again due to vehicle over heating even though it is below the high temperature gauge or light.

Not sure if I believed him until a few weeks later when my truck overheated. I pulled over and let it cool down and finally got it home. The problem was the water pump was bad even though it was not leaking the rubber impeller was not circulating sufficient water. Replaced water pump and three days later the end of the radiator started leaking due to seal failure on the end. So did the seal fail because it got to hot or over pressure are was it a bad radiator from the begining.
