hi i went to a mechanic today as i have a hole in my back box. He says this is to drain water any one else have this or does it need fixing thanks

Nope, there are exhausts with a little hole in it to drain the water. When you only do short trips the exhaust does not get hot enough to evaporate all the water, so this hole makes that your exhaust will last longer.
