A few questions

I've got a 2001 Firebird with a fairly modded v6 in it. It also has a 3.73 rear end so it doesn't have a very large top speed with the 5 speed transmission, and mainly it doesn't get as good a gas mileage as i would like when i cruise around 75-80 mph for a long time. Would a 6 speed transmission be beneficial to this (add top speed without taking away from acceleration, and would it really get me better gas mileage?). i have a freind that totaled an 01 camaro SS and is parting it out, would his transmission fit properly and work in a 2001 Firebird, i know they are both GM but i don't know how much the cars differ from each other. Also my cruise controle doesn't work, i checked the fuse and it is fine is there a trick to it or do i need to take it to a shop and have them look at it?

No you can not bolt a 6 speed to your 3.8 V6. The Bellhousing bolt pattern between V6 & V8's are different. You would need a aftermarket bellhousing (see jegs or summit).

As for the fuel milage, a Modified engine needs to be tuned by people who know what they are doing. A mistake can lead to poor milage. Also some engine modifacations do decrease milage. Take the car to someone that knows how to tune it properly. Even if you built it your self, sometimes a expert hand is needed.

As for the cruise controll, I would leave repairing that to someone who is very familer with late model F-cars. It will be a lot quicker to get repaired that way. Charles
