Engine hood gas spring specs for '88 camaro/firebird

Greetings, does anybody know (or a place from where to get) specs for above mentioned gas spring? I'll need to find out at least extension force [Nm] and max stroke [mm].

Thanks&Regards,

JMR

You'd have to contact Strongarm, a division of R&B (from what I remember) as they market most of the ones in aftermarket. I believe Tenneco (Monroe) owns them now.

Not likely they would tell you that. They are sold by location (hood, trunk, hatch, etc) and by application (year, make model)

Eh, Buying the right one is not the problem. The reason why I needed the specs is the following: cost. Living is hard here in Finland, you cannot find parts for US cars from "regular" part stores. (There are two types of part stores the ones for US cars and the others for the other cars unbelivable, isnt' it!)

One single gas strut costs 68 euros (around 80,00$) in local US PARTS store. Similar struts (with the same overall dimensions) costs in the local "regular" parts store 30 euros. Since there are many struts with the same overall dimensions but with different "stiffness", there is a problem to find the one that is not too stiff nor too weak. I should just know the right stiffness of the original spring in order to buy the cheaper one.

I guess the strut costs a bit less e.g. in the USA or where you live than here in Finland.

Look up the gas strut for your vehicle.

Take that # and interchange it to a company that sells struts in your country. Or, see if you can find them on Ebay cheaply :). I've shipped to Europe, it's not expensive at all.

Again, most companies will not divulge their specs of their products---not needed to sell the part.
