iridium vs platinum spark plugs?

Which one would be the best to put in my 01 WS6. Iridium is double the price of platinum but Ihavn't heard of that type of plug before . Any suggestions?

Iridium Properties Iridium, a metal of the platinum family, is white (similar to platinum) but with a slight yellowish cast. Because iridium is very hard and brittle, it is hard to machine, form, or work. It is the most corrosion-resistant metal known. Iridium occurs uncombined in nature with platinum and other metals of this family in alluvial deposits. It is recovered as a by-product from the nickel mining industry. Although its principal use is as a hardening agent for platinum, iridium is also used to make devices requiring high temperatures. It is also used for electrical contacts. Iridium costs about $500/troy ounce (as of 1990).

:-) Bosch makes a good platinum... Stick with the tried and tested.!!

The original OEM Delco stock plugs. Anything else on a stock application (and most others for that matter) is a big league waste of money. Getting ready to put the ST-10 back together and noticed the rear countershaft thrust washer is toast, crap. Maybe I can order a set from Palm Beach Fedex overnight tomorrow. These old 4 speeds really aren't up to a lot of power. :(

Dave (I need a TKO-600)

PS - I finally had a buddy wet sand the car and buff it out to a glass finish. A guy I know saw the car today and asked me if I had the car repainted, it turned out that nice. ;^) Just a few more weeks before Indy and so much to do but I did get a heck of a deal on a plate type nitrous system.

Are you looking for a GM part? Sounds like it's a common enough thing that someone has it.

Give me a part # you're looking for and a zip code and I'll see what I can find :).

Charles,

I know this is way too late but I just got back from Indy. It was a closed event so if you weren't on the list you couldn't get into the event. I would have replied earlier but between work and damn near everything in the T/A breaking for two weeks before the event I pretty much dropped off the net. I'll be at Norwalk in August though, open event as far as I can tell. It's an all Pontiac deal and I'll be there with the T/A first week in August. It's more of a racing event and the people are pretty cool. If you want to drop by the beer cooler will be full.

As far as Indy, the wife made it to the semi finals before breaking out on a

13.1 dial in with a 12.80 run, don't ask me what happened. I ran in the radial tire deal but missed the cut by .01 or so. I learned a heck of a lot about radial tire racing though. I got the car down to a 12.80 something at 118.60 on rock hard BFG T/A Radials before qualifying closed down for the event.

I couldn't make it to Indy this year, but I might go next year - the wife has relatives in Texas so either Memphis or St. Louis would be ok.

I saw some pics.... now the wife's not so sure if I'd be "allowed" to run the roadcourse - some serious carnage there.

Yeah, Wayne wiped the nose off of his T/A on the roadcourse. I was working the roadcourse when I heard a car go into a long slide near turn 5 and the pucker factor came right in. He was okay and had it back on the course Friday with a new radiator. I'm not sure who was driving the silver Camaro that wiped the whole driver's side of the car. The rest was mechanical damage and one 3rd gen died on the track near the end of the last session on Friday.

My wife went for a ride in a friends car and is now thinking of converting the 73 vette to a road racer. ;^)

Dave(I'd rather trash the vette than the T/A)

As much as I would like to, my summer is pretty much booked with work. Any more I work 6 to 7 days a week, depending on whats going on. You know the charms of having your own place. Charles
