Quadrajet question

ok asI mentioned in a previous post the carb on my system now is marked #17057202. I ve decided its time to rebuild this one or a similar core. I ve done some of my homework on this already and from what I can tell the specs at the bottom of this messsage are equivalent to mine, so I should be able to get any of these cores and rebuild that and still drive mine until the rebuilt one is done, correct? If so anyone have one they are willing to part with? Thanks guys

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!! :)

THIS is the biggest fallacy with carburetors. They are NOT interchangeable. Rochester made different stamping #s for a reason. They have to do with emissions, engines used on, combinations of rears, transmissions, jets, internals, etc.

Most off the shelf rebuilders combine cores under one rebuilt sales #. This is wrong. Many of the choke pulloffs, choke stats, floats and other internals (as well as their settings) all differ from each other.

Case in point: Most rebuilders combine the 77-79 W72 carburetors under one number. But, there was a 17057263, 17058263 and 17059263. All are slightly different. Some 79 cars used the 17058263, but mine has the 17059263.

To do it right (assuming you have the right one on there now, shouldn't be hard to figure out), you need to get that same # core.

Would your plan "work"? Yup, but with a lot of fiddling and the right carb will put you light years ahead of the wrong one.

I have a few cores for my vehicles. I buy them when I see them :).

What year, make, model, engine, transmission, etc? I can probably tell you if it's right.

Based on your #, it seems like some sort of 1977 vehicle. Joe--ASE Certified Parts Specialist & 10th Ann.Club Tech Director '80 Carousel Red Turbo T/A, 27k orig. '79 "Y89" 400/4 speed 10th Ann. T/A, 57k orig '84 Olds 88 Royale Bgm 2 dr, 307 "Rocket" (lol), 143k and still going....
