It was a Dodge prototype but can't remember the name they used. You know its a ChryCo car because at the end when Charlie Sheen is given the car you can see the Chrysler pentagram in the window. A quick search reveals that it was called a M4S.

Hooper came out in 1978, S&B I came out in ' 77 and featured a black special edition car (where the term Smokey and the Bandit edition came from in Pontiac circles. It is really a Black Special Edition car by technicality).
A recent Mountain Dew commercial had a 2nd gen (appeared to be a 1979) doing a launch.
I remember Zales ads back in ' 79 having a Trans Am as a grand give away prize. Also, Pepsi gave one away in 1981, and it recently resold on Ebay.
These cars were hot to have in the 70's. Everyone that sees my cars says the same thing.
"That was the car to have back then" :).

Dazed and Confused also has a red '73 Trans Am. In the beginning of the movie, I think it was when all the future freshmen were getting picked on, there is a '73 T/A in the parking lot with 3rd-gen Camaro five spoke aluminum rims.
Yep. Thats exactly what I thought. The movie is set in 1976 and the car has
82-up rims.
The car that went over the cliff wasn't a real Judge but it was a real GTO. They should have bondo'ed up some rusted out Lemans or Tempest and thrown that off the cliff.
