Rebuild My Q-jet

A few people here, who post on a regular basis have sung the priases of the Q-Jet.

A few have even claimed to be well experianced at building them. Something I hate to do.

So now the stock, ultra high milage Q-jet on my 84 C-10 (305/TH350/high way gears) truck is acting up. I thought about junking it, and dropping a holley on it, but Im out of good cores, and Im low on time for my own projects.

So here is the challenge. Anyone who hounestly thinks they can build me up a good Q-jet for it, that will not only work fine on the stock 305, and the futre 350 which will recive a freash set of heads and a crane cams 84 C-10 "RV" cam. I will not only pay all costs, I will give them $150 bucks..

Any takers? Charles

Charles:

This carburetor shouldn't take you more than an hour or so to rebuild once cleaned up.

Do what I would do. Get another core like it in the bone yard. Always have one rebuilt and ready to go.

In that way, the vehicle will never be out of service. Joe--ASE Certified Parts Specialist & 10th Ann.Club Tech Director '80 Carousel Red Turbo T/A, 26k orig. '79 "Y89" 400/4 speed 10th Ann. First Problem: My 'Cuda parts washer is sitting outside, dead. Rusted up, with a dead pump, and in need of a rebuild. My other parts washer uses K-1, which will not properly clean a carb. It does well for grease & grime removial.

Second problem is time. Any more I have so many customer vehicals and projects, I don't have time for my own. I rarely get a chance to go buy used parts for my self. Charles

I have a carb tank:

It makes carbs look like new, or bare assed white metal!

Can you give me the details? We need one. Charles

It's a 6 gallon can:

With 5 gallons of chemical in it, the big and small baskets are separate. I have Berryman's. But it's available in: Gunk, NAPA, and many other companies. you have to use gloves like you use in the parts washers, because this shit will make your skin and flesh the consistency of chewing gum!

It's dangerous.

The 6 gallon container is under $100.00 and the big basket is about $24.00 and the smaller basket for bolts and parts is about $18.00. I'm on my third container, I used it so much, it makes throttle bodies look new!

PS Don't soak rubber parts, like choke pull-offs or accelerator pumps. They won't survive!

Ahh The stuff my business partner (know it all im god type) swears they no longer make. Ill have to go to the NAPA I just started dealing with and get some. Then leave it out for him to find (with protective gloves). Aught to be good for atleast a chuckel. Charles P.S. Im going to e mail you from my main account, not the yahoo one.

OK:

But I wouldn't do that shit to my worse enemy on a hateful day. I have RSD and Fibro Myalgia, and it stems from painting with hardeners without a respirator, and using shit like those chemicals all my life with out gloves.

So even as a prank, don't do it. But , maybe before he goes take a shit. a finger dipped in the tank a bit, on the toilet paper roll will teach him about wiping his ass the right way?

LOL

PS When Fiberglass talc was still available, I used to screw with guys at the shop and unroll the paper and sprinkle some in. Then roll it back up!

No. Not as a prank. A prank is something like orginizing his tools, which would mean he couldn't find anything.

The Chemical is likely HydroSeal by Gunk. That is NASTY stuff, but it works! :) Joe--ASE Certified Parts Specialist & 10th Ann.Club Tech Director '80 Carousel Red Turbo T/A, 26k orig. Charles, aren't you in Ohio? I have a friend that rebuilds carbs in Loveland.

that stuff makes an old mower crank:

Look like it was just cast and machined, forget about pistons and rods.

It's great for the parts, but bad for the human. Use it with care!

The Hydro Seal means: When left undisturbed for an hour or so, the aqueous part of it(Water) floats to the top. Then seals it from evaporating it's active ingredients.

It also smells like an over powered hot tank.

Yes Im out side the Dayton Ohio area. I have delt with a local arb shop in Englewood Ohio before. The guy there usually buys my holley cores for factory applications.

I tought after a few people on here mentioning they were good with the Q-jets, it would be cool to have an example of their work. Even paying them for their efforts. Charles

Greetings Charles.

If you have not found a Q-Jet expert as of yet.

There is a gent by the name of Cliff Ruggles whom I would recommend you contact. snipped-for-privacy@ecr.net I believe he is also located in Ohio, a place called mount vernon I think. I have no idea where that is? Cliff is a machinist and very knowledgable about many auto areas. He can frequently be found on the

internet tech forums. He has and does do Q-Jet rebuilding, tweaking for many people on the forum. And he runs the Q-Jet on his cars and prefers them over all other models.

Few that know the Q-Jet better IMO.
