T Top Installation?

Anybody ever try and install T Tops into a 2nd Gen? I'm thinking about putting them into my 79 and want to know what the issues are. Thanks, David

Leaks, lack of ridigity, ruining the vehicle, virtually impossible to find OEM parts, throwing the resale value of the car down the toilet, etc, etc, etc, etc.

If it didn't come from the factory that way, it's a waste of time and money.

Back in the late 70's, there were shops that installed T tops. But, that was in the days when everyone wanted T tops and there were lots of F bodies around, besides other GM bodies that took them as well.

If you want to have them, look for one that has them from the factory to start with. One word of warning, they leaked from the factory, so look for rotted floors and windshield pillers.

guys go into great details on T tops. One other note. On the 4th generation F-bodies, T tops can be added. The last generation were designed for T tops. The second generation were not.

Take care.

Ive got them factory installed on my 79. Of all restoration work this area has took the most work and most money considering its a small area compared to the rest of the car. They look cool but I would rather have a hardtop. Ive got half a mind to permanently seal them shut to avoid future damage. The weather-stripping alone for the t-tops is as much as the complete kit for the rest of the car.

The only ones that were GM dealer installed were:

Hurst, and they sucked as much as the others, I remember straightening a roof on a 73, so a conversion shop could put T-Tops in it, when they leaked.

The customer bitched at me. This was in New York, when the Super Fly look was so popular. Those shops were on every corner.
