What would you pay for these TRANS AMs?

I looked at 2 Trans Ams this weekend and I was wondering what other Trans Am buyers would offer for these cars. Neither seller had a set price and wanted me to "make an offer". I told them I would get back to them with a price. They are both in rough shape. Visit my webiste and take a look at the pictures and let me know what you would offer.

I'd probably pay about $400 each. That's probably on the high side. I would probably take the 85 over the 86 if I had to choose.

What are you looking to do? restore? part out?

Low ball them and have them counter. I'd offer $300 and see what they'd say. You can get $150 on ebay just for the TPI unit on the 85.

$500 for the pair or else wait for them to show up at the local junkyard and buy them as salvage. LOL. Don't you love it when people offer to sell something & give you the "make offer" BS? I'd offer no more than $200 for the '86...it doesn't look like it's worth having...especially if there's no paperwork (how will you get rid of it?). Something to think about... Besides, you really don't know how much life's left in the transmission -- looking at the overheated modded/rigged up motor & the car in general, you know it's been abused....

Does the '85 have a title? If the car is rust free (check floorpans too) & has a title, I'd offer around $350. I'd go up to around $500 for it since I like TPI cars & probably restore it since it's a TPI car but everybody's different.

Finding unmolested/modded TPI cars is becoming harder & harder these days, at least for me anyway. They may never be worth much, but they're a blast to drive & they're good-looking too -- damn, even the engines are beautiful.

For the '85 consider the condition of: ..underbody rust, door hinges (they are welded to the doors & super-expensive to fix), dash pad (getting pricey), windshield. Expect to spend a weekend changing out the probably dead fuel pump...

Bottom line is....these things aren't scarce right now, so if you can't get it cheap, keep looking elsewhere.

For example, I gave $350 for my black '87 TPI T/A from a car dealer -- it was a repo & had a bad engine. I towed it home, put a battery in it, & have been driving it around for about four years. Probably got about $750 in it total.

Good luck!!

Nick,

I have an 86 T/A in need of some parts, I would go with Joe (Bigjfig) and

500 for the pair....and seriously...if you get them, let me know, I need some parts lol

or buy them both and sell me the 86 so I have a parts car lol

Seems you are in PA? what part?

my 86 has the smoke grey interior, but the red/grey seats would set the interior off...that and my drivers seat is busted lol

Just be careful with yours... forgot about mine one day.. had it on in a driveway showing a friend, and turned off the car... well went home at night.. forgot it was still on.. met a car, they swerved and pulled over and stopped.. I wondered what that was all about until the SECOND car did the same.. I looked down and saw it was on.. Lol.. oops. :)

nope

mine has an 84 Firebird spoiler on it now. the OE aero wing was cracked and I got rid of it back in 2000

sorry

just about all I have for this car is staying on the car, less the OE Dash cluster and dash pad.

People have to be pretty damn stupid to think a little red light going back and forth is an "emergency light".

Awesome... sooner or later I'm going to be looking for those parts.. but I want the 'bird (one or the other) to be in nice running shape before I worry about that.
