WTB chevy small block 327, 350, 383 THIS WEEK

I'm looking to buy a newly rebuilt longblock, chevy 327, 350, or 383 stroker for a '68 Camaro. I might also be interested in a combination engine/muncie close ratio 4 speed. Prefer Minnesota/Wisconsin border area, but I might consider one from farther away. I need one right away, anyone have one? I'll pay a fair price for an engine that is ready to bolt in and go. I'm not looking for a racing engine, just a dependable smallblock arond 300-400hp.

For the kind of go power you want, you would fare best getting a GM crate engine. It will have all the go fast goodies, a warranty, and be a ready-to-go bolt in with less hassle.

Yep, I've been looking into a crate engine too... or else just rebuilding the 383 that I own right now. I have already dealt with buying an engine 'as is', I don't want to get burned again!

I'd like to get back on the road before fall comes, here in the midwest the driving season is short...if I don't pick up a good engine soon, I'll just end up waiting until winter & do it as a winter project-- you're right, best not to rush engine work! Terry

And all of a sudden I can't find a decent 350 in the junkyards anymore... need one for my dirt car - running... and almost nothing. I don't want a 305 and I already have a 350 that needs rebuilding...

argh. I feel your pain. I blame Honda. ;) Seriously - the "standard" car in the junkyard is about a 15 year old car - which means it's all FWD crap now and SBC's are actually becoming less common than a 2.8V6... yick.

Depending on where you live, there are always some 'newly rebult' engines on Ebay, but since I got ripped off on an engine on Ebay once I'm hesitant to buy that way again-- Terry

I'm in Canada... and not really wanting to play the Canada Customs game with an engine... and $200 in shipping for a $200 engine...

probably getting one that I heard run - it's in an 87 Firebird and was from an 81 Camaro Z28. Looks clean, sounds good. Guy will let me do a compression test if I want. Heads are "good" (462624 with 1.94 valves)

- I'm limited to 72cc or greater heads and 9.5 compression for the class I run in anyway so it's looking like a better deal as time goes on - I'm going to try and see if he'll throw in the 3 core rad he's got... it's been converted to a carb so all the computer stuff was yanked - which in this case is good - standard HEI... although it was a TPI car, so I dunno what they were thinking...

That deal does sound like the best you might find...I live in Wisconsin, but I do see some engines & parts for sale in Canada on Ebay, and quite a few old Camaros-- good luck and post your progress on your engine search-- Terry
