I'm not familiar with the 94's, but on my 99 there is a switch mounted on the front of the master cylinder that is normally closed, but when you step on the brake, the brake fluid pushes open the internal pressure switch, which turns off the cruise. You could have a bad switch. As a matter of fact these switches were recalled by Ford recently due to the fact that they can start fires if the brake fluid should somehow get in contact with the electrical current if the internal pressure switch leaks or fails.

i have a 94 ford explorer 4wd. the problem is when im parked and backing up and the steering wheel is turned all the way i get a loud clunck sound from the front end, cant tell if it's the right or left side, sometimes it sounds like it comes from either side. and sometimes when braking hard, any suggestions as to what the problem may be,thanks.

I'd guess that either you have it in 4WD and it's binding or your radius arm bushings are worn out. Or both.

Check your radius arm bushings. If they have never been replaced that could be your problem. The older Explorers have been plagued by this problem. They usually get chewed up or the rubber shrinks with time and need to be replaced.
