94 Explorer trans leak?

1994 Explorer, 4X2, 200+K, Auto trans.

Until aprox 4 weeks ago, my Explorer was driven every day, but has not been driven since.

There is now a large oil spot under the rear of the engine/transmission.

Checking the engine oil shows no oil loss.

Prior to starting the engine, checking trans oil shows oil overfill.

Starting the engine, and then checking the transmission oil shows oil below the low mark.

Hmmmm. . .

Torque converter leaking down, raising the trans oil level above the shift lever. oil leaking past the shift lever onto the ground?

Any other ideas?

How hard is it to replace the shift lever seals?

Thanks.

I'd appreciate that.

Yeah, I've got a shift lever seal leak, too. I took it to a tranny repair shop and they replaced every seal in the tranny except that one for $300. I took it back since it still leaked and they replaced some o-ring around a sensor. Still leaked. Idiots. I'm going to replace it myself some weekend.
