changing serpentine belt on 93 explorer

I have a squeak in the engine compartment that sounds like its the belt, so I am going to replace it. From looking at it, I know I will have to take the air intake tube off to get to the tensioner, is there anything else I will need to remove? The radiator fan looks awfully close. Has anyone been able to change the belt w/o taking off the fan & shroud?

Thanks, Aaron

It's easier to remove the air tube. I did this recently when the tensioner in my 94 broke. The only problem I had was getting the tensioner over far enough to put the new belt on. The tensioner has a square hole in it the size of a 3/8" socket drive, so you can use a breaker bar to move it over to get the belt on.

No, the belt does not go over the fan. There is a diagram of the belt routing under the hood. You need a 16 mm wrench to fit the tensioner pulley bolt head. A new belt tends to be stiff and difficult to slip over the last pulley, a large screwdriver can help to "pry" it onto the pulley.
