Coolant temperature sender replacement

I have a '98 Explorer XLT with the SOHC engine. The dash temperature gauge doesn't work and I have traced it to a broken wire on the coolant temperature sender. Is there a way to remove the coolant temperature sender without removing the upper manifold?
