Engine & Transmission Fluid

OOPS!

I put Auto. Transmission Fluid (1 qt.) by mistake in my engine.

I drained all the oid from the drain pan and then added 4 qt.'s of Motor Oil BEFORE starting it, though.

Should the engine be o.k. or should I take it in and have the oil changed at a lube place?

Thanks.

The ATF was Valvoline's MAXLIFE stuff.

What you did was fine--draining the old oil got rid of the ATF and any trace that was left will be diluted so much by the new 4 quarts that there will be no problems. I'm not even sure that running with the one quart of ATF would have caused anything serious. In any case, your situation was certainly better than having added a quart of motor oil to the transmission instead of ATF.

I do not know the answer, but it looks according to the 1st two replies that you'll be OK. My only reason for replying is just to say at times we all do weird things. About 15 years ago, I added anti-freeze to the windshield washer tank. AND my neighbor filled his Volkswagen diesel Rabbit with gasoline.
