FE 2002 Liftgate question ?

I have broken my liftgate window last week .Ford dealer installed a new one , but seems to be different so was impossible to install. Site of fixings of the jacks seems to be different ????Then they had to take a rear window from another 2002 explorer unsold . My explorer 2002 XLT 4WD ( export vs ) has been made in august 2002.

Did ford change the system of the liftgate ?

Thanks in advance

I believe they did ART. The earlier 2002 Explorers use a mount that goes through the glass and appears from the outside as a circular metal pad. At some point they changed this (2003 ?), as there is no evidence of the mount from outside the vehicle. I guess its something bonded to the inside of the glass. So did your dealer order the wrong glass or is the glass he ordered the only thing available now? Interesting in light of the recall notice I just received regarding replacement of the hinges and mounts on the glass. Did yours break on its own or did you do it yourself?

I broke mine too, just last week, a few days before the recall notice arrived which only then warned me not to open the window until I got it fixed. I was just closing the window and the strut mount apparently worked loose, swiveled and jammed. This caused a lever effect and snapped the window, which of course crumbled into a million pieces. I remembered hearing something about a recall way back from 2001 (Google it and you'll see that admitted to the problem in 2001 on just a "few" units from one production run) so I called the dealer, told him what happened and said they'll fix it all, glass, struts and even paint, under the new recall, bring it in. A mightly lucky coincidence for me. I guess they are having to admit the limited 2001 recall was bs.

Anyway, the truck has been there the last week waiting for parts. And now the dealer says I need to pay 30% for the cost of a new rear wiper, as that's not covered, but Ford will "accomodate" me by paying 70%. I say use the old wiper. He says its damaged. I say if so, it must have happened when it crashed to the ground due the piece of crap window design which they have acknowledged by the recall, and Ford should pay the whole thing. He's checking with the almighty "Zone Manager" and will get back to me. Any thoughts?

You're absolutely right , from the outside you can not make any difference

So my dealer didn't order 2002 glass ....

Didn't understand your question .A truck has broke my rear window........So didn't do it myself

BTW , I'm concerned about the recall notice and still waiting answer from my dealer.

Best Regards
