Front door speakers

2001 Sport Trac

I just noticed today that both front door speakers sound really scratchy. Any bass at all is just buzz. Selecting just the rear speakers with the fader control, it sounds fine. Is it likely that both front speakers shot craps all of a sudden or could there be another cause? H

It's likely.

Bad amp? Teen in the house with a jones for music loud where he/she hangs? Sounds like one of those two IMHO the Ford radios are nothing to write home about. Same with the speakers.

I've got a 1992 with a '02 aftermarket that looks stock. Might be a good time to look for a new radio w/ MP3 @ XM or Sirius satellite recepti> 2001 Sport Trac

Probably the paper factory speakers that Ford uses or the cheap amp. Factory stereos are crap not matter what you listen to or how loud you listen to it. I put Infinity Kappa 63.5i's in my '91 and they sound amazing. You need either 5x7's (which I do NOT recommend simply because they generate very little bass response) or 6 1/2's with a 5X7 to 6 1/2 adapter plate (which is what I did). If you feel feisty, go ahead and dump the factory amp and replace it with a superior after-market amp such as Rockford-Fosgate, Alpine, etc.

My '97 xlt is having the same trouble. One speaker in the front on passenger side will crackle when it is cold outside or if I drive for a long time. I expected this to happen eventually though since I have

225k on it.

Thanks for the replies. I put a set of 6x8 Pioneers in it and so far, so good. H

If you want it to sound good, try something like this.
