I have a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer AWD V8. GREAT truck, bought it used. Is there any way I can tell if I have a tow package? Perhaps a label somewhere on the truck?
I'll be towing a 3000 lb tent trailer and need to know if I have a tranmission cooler (which comes with the tow package). Absent any markings on the truck, can someone tell me what a transmission cooler is supposed to look like so I can check under the car myself?

Most likely you have the tow package, Ford included the option on a lot of new vehicles for starters look for:
limited-slip differential under "axle" on the driver's door sticker, you probably have D4 listed.
Look for the tranny cooler through the front grill on the passenger side about 7 inches square with fins and to hoses out the bottom
