2009 Escape Roof Rack Question

I need to order cross bars for my roof rack. Why they would put a rack on the vehicle without the crossbars is a mystery to me. Ford's accessory sites list two types- One type is Elliptical (2007-09), the
other is apparently not elliptical. Same price. (2009-10). Any suggestions? Thanks.

That is surprising that they weren't included. My '02 Escape came with two crossbars and two tie-downs that slide in the rack track. None of the items are even listed on the window sticker. Mine, I assume, are the elliptical style- the cross-section is oval and they bow slightly across the roof. I'm not sure what the other would be.
Drive by your dealer and see if any others on the lot have them installed, and if they're listed on the sticker. Did you ask your salesperson about it?

It's an accessory "option." Goofy. How could the rack possibly be useful without them? I'm not going to pile things on the roof (and moonroof) and tie them down. Thanks for the info. B.T.W. I like the car very much but it has a couple strange (non) features. 1. no Cancel on the cruise control - have to touch the brake. Then you can Resume. 2. If you happen to leave the headlights on there is no auto shut off. It has that feature on the Autolight setting, but thats no help when you have the lights on during the day. Also the On setting is 3 clicks away from Auto-inconvenient.
