95 Contour SE height issue

I am 6' 5" and my contour does not have the tilt handle for the steering wheel (it never had one) and its a standard so its hard to clutch with the wheel so low. Is there anyway to tilt it without the tilt handle? If anyone else has had height issues with the contours I would love to hear how you solved them.

From what I'm told there are two different columns used, and one can come with or without the lever. Without the lever you can apparently loosen a nut and adjust the height. I have not tried it on my '96, as it seems to be at a pretty good height - but it IS higher than some others I've seen, so the original owner may well have had it raised.

It's customary on here to share info ... or is it all one way, with you?

The Contour/Mystique were supposed to have a tilt column available when they came out in 1995, but there were design and/or safety issues, and it was dropped. It didn't become available until late in the '96 model year.

From what I remember of my '95 Mystique, the column was bolted into a cross member under the dash. I think some people made adapter plates that let them offset it.

sorry i found out what clare at snyder and andrew rossmann said combined basicaly.. but today i decided to just mod the seat runners.. i basicaly took the part that bolts to the car and turned them around and drilled a new hole and removed the rubber washer on the screw that moves the seat to move the seat back a total of 7 inches.. it now touches the back seat in full back position
