Ford has proclaimed that Muslim shall not purchase their cars. Why? They have not allowed the workers to practice their faith and take prayer from their work schedules.

Huh????

FWIW, when I was self employed, I would hire any qualified person when needed..... realistically, I will NOT pay someone to pray... I will NOT halt production for this same reason.

Oh.... can you cite the source for *Muslim shall not purchase Ford cars...*. And what does purchasing have to do with workers practicing their faith? I would bet that no production line manufacturer in the modern world would abide these interruptions.

The world has progressed to it's current state. It may escape some that "when in Rome, do as the Romans..." works. If our system does not work for you, please do not change it. Start your own system..... tailor it your way.... compete in the global marketplace..... DO NOT moan about it... life sucks, deal with it...

Dell computers, has a plant in Tennessee. Muslim employees there, backed them to the wall with discrimination lawsuit... They now are allowed to leave the shipping or assembly areas at prayer time.. Don't know if the whole assembly line shuts down or not... Chuck (I tried to google it to give you link to story.. but found nothing.. it was about November of last year..)

Yes, It's a U.S. Constitution Issue.

The reason is that there are several protected classes. Religion is one of them. Been there, got straightened out.

I was a supervisor and had occasion, during an EEO training session, to discuss protected classes with a *Superior Court Judge* that specialized in this type of case and also trained employers' management. Well there wasn't too much discussion on my part, I was pointedly *told*.

The discussion was a question regarding overtime work. Employees signed a contract that they would work overtime as required by the employer. Supervision had the "right" to assign work.

I postulated this question trying to prove a point regarding fairness:

Overtime became necessary for all of the employees on a Saturday. An employee objected to working because of religious reasons. I didn't want to treat that person differently than the others that were required to work and run afoul of "dis-seperate treatment laws". I said it wasn't fair to the other employees that were "forced" to work.

I was wrong. I was told that it doesn't have to be fair, it's the law.

Religion is a protected class, fairness to the other employees or the employer, and the hoops to be jumped through had no bearing; that wasn't protected like religion was. I could require that employee to work overtime several days during the week to make up the 8hrs of overtime for the Saturday; but, I could not force him/her to work a Saturday against their religion.

I am not a lawyer and have *no* legal advice, I just pass on what I was told by an authority (Judge) during training and my personal work experiences.

So, I guess after reading the past couple of posts my questions/thoughts are; Can I as owner/management refuse individual(s) to practice their established (protected) religion during normal work hours, requiring them to continue to work, when I couldn't do that on overtime? I suspect not; but, I might be able to require them to make up that time.

The stopping of an assembly line is another question whose answer I suspect probably lies in the being flexible and management of your workforce area. When I brought up issues like that, I was called for jury duty and my boss didn't think I could be spared from work, I was asked (by a judge again) "Well what would you do if someone was sick?" I said find another employee to work in their place. The judges response was, "Well then do that in this case".

Now I remember another reason to celebrate being retired. ;-)

The thing that gets me most about posts like this is that the OP never responds to anything that is subsequently posted. He just breaks the crust on the bucket of crap, then leaves everyone else to live in the stink. Nobody who isn't a Muslim really cares. We have enough of our own problems; we really don't care about yours. If you don't like how you're treated here, move to somewhere else. After all, THIS is a free country, and you can go wherever you want!

and the ACLU and several other do gooder organizations and individuals... and they only care about what it might get for them, not what it might do for Muslims to have such information released...

We are obviously part of the most downtrodden segment of society in the free world.... the white, male , Protestant/Catholic, middle aged, wage earning, employed, heterosexual, married, tax paying with 2.3 children scum bag...

Single handedly and together, we are the sole cause for racial strife, gay bashing, battered women, unwanted pregnancy, the national debt, non-productivity, health care costs, lack of community, ghettos, high gas prices, acne, psoriasis, violence in entertainment and the 1958 Edsel.... It is on our shoulders that the weight of the world should rest... it is from our labours that the rest of the world can enjoy life and procreate and watch "As The Stomach Turns"... all the while bemoaning the fact that their sorry existence is too hard a burden and we should make more allowances for their individuality....

Yeah... I had one of them "days"... again.

Years ago I considered a lateral to the California Highway Patrol. I had a number of friends who were CHP, and the pay was better.

Figuring I might have a better shot with one of my connections... I approached him about the move. His response about floored me....

He said, 'Dave, they have a hiring freeze in place, and the only way you'll get hired is to be a black oriental female with a Spanish surname. You must be gay or at least bisexual, and it helps to be an immigrant, or at least be a first generation American.'
