My daughter has a '99 Ford F150 4x4 that leaked out about 2 or 3 quarts
of ATF because of a leak in the cooler line. A repair garage was very
nearby when she noticed the leak and they repaired the line and topped
off the tranny, but used Mercon 3. I looked at the dipstick and it
says Mercon 5. Should all the tranny fluid be flushed and refilled with
Mercon 5 ASAP ?
I'm not really familiar with Fords, but if it's like my Dodge (which
needs ATF+4 only), I figure that Mercon 3 better come out of there. Right ?
The repairing garage should come good on this one.... It is difficult to say
if this amount of contamination would lead to an early demise of the
transmission, but the truth of the matter is that someones oversight has
resulted in a concern... and that party is liable for the resolution.
By all means, have the system returned to as close to normal as possible. If
the shop performing the mistake doesn't come right on fixing the mistake,
tell everyone you know in no uncertain terms.
fock dont worry about it
i seen more leftover oil go in in one of those BG type
tranny flush machines
LMFAO the bg gimmick is that it adds warrenty
the thing holds 14 liters
just do a flush
