OBD II software

Does anyone have any experience with steups to connect a laptop to the diagnostic port? What hardware / software combos work well? Which ones don't? I'd like to have something more than just a flashing light to give me the code. This will be for an '02 Town Car.

TIA

a lot of good stuffto look at here. I have been wavering on the AutoTap scanner to add someflexibility to my toolbox. Depending on your needs, you may suffice withsomething simple.... scan codes, PID data and possibly active commands. Whatwould be great is to have a tool to extend these features to proprietarymodules such as ABS and body control modules. This can be a complicated subject and the price range is BIG....

Expensive is relative to how much your budget can stand.
