Problem: Doesn't want to cold start?

Ford Escort 1.3 in question dowsn't want to cold start, battery was changed, battery signal light is on, and starter won't turn, but when connected to the other car with wires it starts, what could that be?

Some mechanic sais that it is because of bad diodes in alternator? Can that be it?

How much do these diodes cost?

Sitting, that is pretty low.

First thing you need to start off with a charged battery. Then clean and tighten all connections between the battery and starter. incuding ground cables.
