The power lock trips and the mechanism turns over with the use of the key but the hatch refuses to open. I'm at a loss for ideas short of using the Jaws of Life on it. Thanks for your consideration.

Sounds like you will have to crawl inside the back and remove the panel to get in open and fixed.
