car is a ford contour 1998,with 95,000 miles and a rebuilt trans. 4 cylinder. cruising along the highway when i heard a whirling grinding sound. all of a sudden the engine stopped dead. i tried to restart but i got the same whirling grinding sound as the engine was trying to turn over. it seemed like it really wanted to start at times but no cigar. what could it be?
