Windstar Temperature Gauge

I'm not a regular here but would appreciate any help. The temp gauge needle is moving in the wrong direction sometimes. It works correctly most of the
time. It's full of coolant and the water pump seems to be okay. Is this likely the sending unit or the gauge?
Thanks, Kim

Well, the thermostat stays closed until the coolant temperature rises to a certain level. During this closed period, the temperature gauge will also rise. When the thermostat opens, cooling will suddenly increase, and the temperature gauge will also fall. Is that what you mean?
