I recently bought a ford focus 1.6 ghia with a zetec engine and 36000 miles.After being stood for a few hours or overnight there is a high pitched squeal coming from the engine which may be from the belt but not
100% sure.It lasts about 5 mins,turns into a sort of chugging noise then disappears altogether after about 15mins.Any help is much appreciated as to whether i should be worried or not,thanks.In message , psm06 writes

Subject: Howling noise from accessory drive belt during the warm-up period at 2000 - 3000 rev/min at ambient temperatures below 10º C for a period of 2 - 3 minutes.

Should a customer express concern over a howling noise coming from the accessory drive belt area during the warm up period at 2000 - 3000 rev/min, at ambient temperatures below 10º C for a period of 2 - 3 minutes, the probable cause is bearing interferences in the accessory drive belt idler pulley. To rectify this concern, a revised idler pulley should be installed.
