19-inch wheels?

I bought my F350 with 16-inch wheels I would get better milage. However, I've been told that 19" wheels and tires get better milage than the 16-inch. That does not make sense to me.

Can't find a reference on the net for clarification. Does anyone have a reference they could share?

It's unlikely there's much you can do to improve an F350's mileage.

The only thing that is going to make any meaningful difference in the fuel economy on a near 8000 pound rolling brick is your right foot. Drive it like there is an egg under that pedal that you don't want to break, and slow down. Accelerate slower, brake less, slow down well before the light, so that hopefully it turns and you can accelerate slowly through it, instead of rolling up on it, braking hard and then accelerating from a slower speed or complete stop. Driving slower will improve overall economy as well.

Larger tires would result in a slightly lower effective total gear ratio, allowing you to cruise at a lower engine RPM. This can very slightly effect fuel economy, but probably not so much that you could even measure.

And probably not enough to offset the cost of rims and tires. I doubt the truck would last long enough to do that, since you'd probably have to buy another set of tires before the truck finally died :-)
