1996 Mazda B3000 (3.0L V6 Ranger) heater prob

Have the above truck which is basically a 1996 Ford Ranger 3.0L v6 (all the parts are either stamped Ford or Motorcraft) which is blowing out only cold air when I'm trying to get heat. I just replaced the temperature selection switch (middle dial on the control panel), but to no avail. I checked the fuses in the fuse panel and they are all good. The A/C works just fine and the blower will put out air appropriately for the fan speed selected. The engine warms up normally, but I still receive cold or cool air.

Any suggestions on what I can try or what the problem may be. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like a clogged heater core:

Remove both hoses after draining the system, and blow through one. If the hose is hard to blow through, you have a clogged heater core. Not an uncommon thing.

Unless you have combustion entering the cooling system?

I agree probably either heater core is clogged or the heater vavle isn't opening. try to disconnect the hoses from the heater core and hook up a garden hose. I used hot water, but cold is ok. Turn on the water and watch what comes out. Usually house pressure is better than the pressure the water pump can produce. Mind you this in no way implies I know what I'm talking about. But it work for me back in the 70's on a dodge.

Strong possibility that the temperature blend door inside the heater case has cracked at the pivot points. Fairly common problem because Ford chose the wrong type of plastic to use to mold the blend door. There are TSBs advising the new part numbers with upgraded materials to better resist cracking. IIRC, it's about an 8 hour job. Another possibility is that the blend door actuator servo motor has gone south. Still a bitch to get to.....
