2004 warranty

Have 2004 ranger, 6cyl, supercab. Not had but a few months, 33,000 miles. Since its nearing the end of 36,000 mile warranty, will ford dearlership check it out and replace anything they think will need replacing, or does something specific have to be wrong. Been a long time since I've had vehicle that was still under warranty. Thanks

If it ain't broke, they won't fix it under warranty. Wear items (brake pads for instance) were never going to be replaced under warranty. If you have a concern, you should go see the dealer. If nothing is broken, what do you expect them to do? Break something and then fix it? You could check the TSBs and describe the symptoms given in a TSB (whether you actually have them or not) in an effort to get them to do something, but this seems dishonest.

Forget it. Go to an independent mechanic and have HIM check all items that may be covered. While he's at it, do the routine maintenance that I'm sure you neglected :)

Your warranty is to cover manufacturing defects. Not items that routinely wear out and need replacing during normal use.

And if you do have a problem that the dealer can't replicate they will tell you since nothing was found there is nothing to warrant, $75 diagnostic charge please...

They could try that, but the next time I wanted to buy a vehicle, they would not see me in their showroom.

I have worked in service for over 24 years and would consider that the fastest way in the world to lose a customer permanently. Piss away 1,000s of dollars in future vehicle sales for $75. Real stupid.

They did it to me on a 1989 Mustang GT with extended warranty. It would idle sporadically at 1800 - 3000 RPM. Try slowing down to a stop when that happens. Took it in twice and they couldn't duplicate the problem either time. Said pay the diagnostic fee and if it ever failed when they had it they would consider refunding the charges.

Yeah, I had (have) a GMC van that had about three ongoing problems that the dealership (Coast Pontiac/GMC in Portsmouth, NH) couldn't duplicate. After bringing it in for about the third time, the service manager tried to split the diagnostic charges with me. I told him I wasn't paying them just because they were so inept as to not find the problems. It turned in to a yelling match and he finally decided it was better to send me on my way unpaid as I was making his other customers nervous. He invited me to not ever come back to Coast Pontiac/GMC. After three failed attempts, it wasn't like I was going to let them near my van again anyway......

(And the three problems? Still there. Just learned to live with them.)

If you can live with them, are they really problems?

What are they?
