88 F150 351 Idle Issue

I just bought this nice XLT Lariet edition 4X4. 150K on the odometer, apparently 120K on the engine. Took it to the shop for a major lookover (don't want the acronym for FORD to come into effect if possible). replaced oxygen sensor, general tune up, but the bad boy still has a miss at idle...

I am thinking some sort of intake manifold leak, and will try and test tomorrow. But, is there other things to look at?

Also, the AC has run out of juice. Plan to upgrade it with a napa kit. Anyone want to comment on this?

Thanks

The PCV valve hose is one common leak, pretty quick to deteriorate, also, the plenum gasket between the air plenum and the top of the intake manifold.

Do a thorough flush of the system first, disconnect hoses and flush and blow out condenser and evaporator, drain compressor, then vacuum it down good.- Then replace the accumulator and the orifice tube. Pour the correct amount of the correct pag oil (GM uses one type, Ford another) ,into the evap condenser, accumulator and compressor. Turn the compressor over by hand a dozen times, then vacuum it again for 10-15 minutes. If you do it right it will cool as well as it ever did. You have to play with the pressures. a 1/4 pound of R-134a makes a big difference in performance of the system. Watch the high side pressure. I find mine cools best with a low side of 32-34 pounds, on a very hot summer day, the high side hits about 275, I live in west central Florida. Oh and make sure the fan clutch is in good condition, if in doubt replace it with a heavy duty clutch, and clean the debris out from between the radiator and the ac condenser. Then again there are those that will argue that Frezon is the way to go.

Sounds odd, but if it is an occasional miss when sitting in traffic, replace the motor mounts.
